In 1995 the Carrera 4 Cabriolet was the most expensive 911 you could buy. The all wheel drive system on these cars was a much simpler and very elegant solution compared to the outgoing 964 C4 and made for an amazing 4 season sports car. Because these were so expensive just 458 Carrera 4 Cabs were sold in the US for 1995, making this the rarest normally aspirated 993 variant. Cool!

One of my favorite things about this car is the color combination. If you haven’t seen Metallic Black in person, you are in for a treat. In bright sunlight the car appears to be almost slate gray, in dim light the car appears black and in soft sunrise or sunset it has a warm brown/gray glow to it. Now you add the contrast of the cashmere interior and black top and it just pops in the way a standard black one wouldn’t! The body and paint on this car are 100% original (as verified by a paint meter) and it is very clean. The paint does show some of the expected wear of 80k miles but it has no egregious chips and it would be a car you would be proud to own. It of course has a clean history and Carfax, feel free to request a copy.

The interior is likewise very clean, with just minor hints of 20 years of enjoyment. Everything works as designed including the cruise control, AC, stereo etc. Jump in and go. One nice item is this is an early 1994 build so it has no drive block, if you have ever owned a 993 with that system you will appreciate not having it on this car!

Now the best part of this car is the mechanics, here the car has been lavished with attention and many of the big 993 potential issues have been sorted out. More than $15k has been spent on this car in the last 5k miles. Here is what has been done:

  • 4 newly refinished OEM Cup 2 wheels with 4 brand new Continental Extreme Contact tires (literally less than 5 miles on them). When I got the car it was riding on a replica set of 996TT wheels that made the car drive poorly, there is nothing like original to make it right!
  • Brand new convertible top and headliner installed 5/2/2014, flawless!
  • New ZF Steering rack (known 993 issue…)
  • New master cylinder
  • Complete top end overhaul and reseal! Replace the following: all case gaskets, 12 new valve guides, new rings, 12 new rod bolts, new intermediate shaft bearing, new plugs, new wires, new oil return tubes, new distributor belt. Motor is 100% dry, makes amazing power and drives as new! Just over 3,000 miles since this was done.
  • RS clutch, flywheel and throw out bearing done at time of top end overhaul. Car spins up beautifully and has no idle issues these sometimes have.
  • 4 new brake pads, rotors and sensors
  • The car also had the OEM Boge shocks replaced front and rear with Bilstein HD’s at 60k miles, what a difference!

I just cant say enough how well this car drives, I get the opportunity to drive a lot of 993’s and this car stands out. I think the recent motor work, RS clutch, new brakes and refreshed suspension really are evident when you jump behind the wheel. Some cars just feel tired at this mileage, not this one.
