1986 Porsche 930 Turbo

In 1975 Porsche absolutely set the world on its ear with the introduction of the Porsche Turbo Carrera or 930. It’s 3.0 liter turbocharged motor made 240hp and hit 60 mph in just over 5 seconds, remember in 1975 the fastest cars of the day struggled to break 8 seconds to 60mph, how things have changed! In 1978 Porsche upped the ante with a displacement boost to 3.3 liters and intercooling, improving power output to 282hp in the US version. Sadly we were only offered that car until 1979 and it was no longer offered stateside as it couldn’t meet our ever-increasing emissions standards. We were forced to wait 6 long years and Porsche reintroduced the car to the US with minor changes starting in 1986. There is not a Porsche of the era that makes such a statement. How many of us had this fat fendered beast hanging on our bedroom wall? This car absolutely defines a genre of Porsche, love or hate it’s an icon. To a Porschephile it’s a bucket list car! Sure they have tremendous lag and quirky handling but that is all forgiven when the tach swings past 3,500 rpm, the boost needle pegs on 1, and there is a earthreal pull in 2nd gear that compresses your eyes firmly into the back of your sockets! I’d like to think I am a more evolved being but I can’t help but feel like 16-year-old boy on a first date when I drive this car…

Ok, enough rambling about 930’s, here is a quick overview of this particular example. I first saw this car almost 5 years ago and it was a memorable event. I was on a date with my wife and I saw this car parked across the street from us. It was an absolutely stunning car and being a Porsche nut I of course had to go take a look. With a slight eye roll from my wife, I walked over to the car. I was just absolutely taken by the depth of the black paint and the stunning contrast of the Red Full leather interior! The car just radiated from 50 feet away! Fortunately as I approached the car the owner appeared and we struck up a conversation. I complimented him on the car and let him know if he ever wanted to sell it to give me a call. Well patience is a virtue because here we are almost 5 years later…

The current owner purchased the car almost 13 years ago from another local owner when it had just 24k miles, surprisingly the car has been a local car for the past 20 years and I had never seen it. Current mileage is just 42,540 miles. Since I was not familiar with the car I suggested the owner take the car to my preferred 930 guru, Squire Tomasi, for a complete inspection and service. The car was given a clean bill of health and any items needing serviced were addressed ($3,104), here is what was done:

  • New Ignition (CD) module
  • Front and rear hood shocks
  • New battery and hold down
  • Brake fluid flush
  • Adjust C.O.% and tune for drivability
  • New washer pump

Other recent service items in the last 500 miles:

Oil and Filter, adjust valves, new valve cover gaskets, new sparkplugs, reseal transmission cover plate, new cap and rotor, wires, air filter, left side oil return tubes, new oil lines.

4 New Tires- 205/55/16 front and 245/45/16 rear.

The body and paint on this car are simply stunning. No dings, scratches or imperfections and only a few minor rock chips commiserate with mileage. The interior is likewise gorgeous! I can’t tell you how unique and spectacular the black on red combo is. I get really tired of all the black interiors; here is your chance for something unique! Everything on the car works as it should and it drives just like you dreamed it would. It of course has a clean history and comes with all books, the maintenance booked stamped through 20k miles, service records from 24k miles to current, complete tool kit and jack. It is only missing the correct air compressor.

If you have always wanted a 930, this car certainly deserves your attention!
