I often get the question “what is your everyday car?”. The answer to this is not quite as sexy as many might imagine, the majority of the time the demands of running a car business, moving parts around, pulling a car trailer and the like means the typical answer is “Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel….”. Now I could extol the virtues of the 5.9 liter Cummins as the air-cooled flat six of the diesel truck world, I could wax poetically about how that big Cummins makes enough torque to pull 8% grades fully laden without so much as breaking a sweat… but you ask, “What the heck does this have to do with the gorgeous 928 I see above…”…..
So for the past year IF I am not driving my truck or my MK4 VW R32 (another EPIC car: my winter/snow car) I am driving my 1979 Porsche 928. I LOVE this car! I could go on for days about how much I enjoy the steering feel, the confidence inspiring handling, the bank vault esque solidity, the effortless torque of the V8, don’t get me started! It took me awhile to firmly move into the “928 Camp” but consider me a full on, kool-aide swilling member! That is not to say I have abandoned my 911 roots, but just as one can love more than one child (thankfully as I have 4!) one can love one model of Porsche without being a philanderer to the other!
This particular 928 comes from the later generation S4 family, first introduced in 1987, brining with it literally dozens of improvements including a delicious 5.0 liter, 32-Valve, 320hp V8. These are the sweet spot in the 928 world right now, more developed than the early cars, yet not commanding the large premiums of the later Gt and GTS models. This S4 is finished in one of the best color combinations available in period: Marine Blue Metallic over Navy, elegant yet stunning at the same time. This car was originally delivered into Canada and came to the US in 2014. Having covered just over 52,000 kilometers (~32k miles) it looks as if you have stepped back into the late 80’s. I have already submitted this car to Bring a Trailer, but I figured I would whet your appetite with some teaser info. Enjoy!
