1989 Porsche 3.2 Carrera Targa-8,977 original miles!

I am often accused of being quite verbose in my descriptions of the cars that I offer for sale. I will confess that’s probably an accurate accusation, I simply have a hard time confining my excitement and passion for the various cars that pass thru my hands. Even though some amazing cars pass thru my hands, there are still cars that simply stand head and shoulders above the others, cars that are so unique that I find myself scraping the bottom of my literary tool bag.

This 1989 Targa is one of those cases, so I promise to avoid a veritable spattering of flowery prose imbuing this Porsche with layers of praise. Simply I will call this car NEW….

Here is how this car was ordered:

  • Diamond Blue Metallic- $892
  • Marine Blue Full Leather Beltline- $1,984
  • Shorter Gear Shift Lever- $67
  • Full Power Seat Left- $485
  • Full Power Seat Right- $485
  • Sport Shock Absorber- $308

Original List Price- $57,221

This Porsche was sold new on June 9th1990 at Rusnak Porsche in Thousand Oaks, CA. The car was traded back into Rusnak and they placed a classified ad in the Los Angeles Times on September 13th, 1996. The 2ndowner saw this classified and raced down to purchase the car the very next day. He was a very obsessive collector and knew how special this car was. At this time the car had just 6,242 miles. He immediately placed the car in climate-controlled storage where the car was driven just 1,210 miles over the next 13 years.

Fast forward to 2009 I started to hear murmurs from a friend about an eccentric collector who β€œmight” have a like new 89 Targa. I will spare you the long drawn out details, but suffice it to say it was quite an undertaking to acquire this car. Upon acquisition I brought the car back to my shop and completed a full service and installed 4 new tires to make the car roadworthy. I then sold the car to a local client who has maintained the car in its as new condition over the past 8 years and 1,220 miles.

Upon getting the car back I again wanted to make sure it was fully mechanically up to par, so I took the car to John Walker at John Walker’s Workshop, the local Porsche β€œwhisperer”.Β I commissioned a full major service including all fluids, filters, valve adjust, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, cap & rotor, drive belts, new wiper blades and replaced the rear lid shocks. Compression was noted at 180lbs across the board and leak down at 4% cold! From there I made a small punch list of ANYTHING I thought wasn’t literally as new, if it was even slightly not correct, it was cleaned, replaced with OEM or repaired. This car is ready to be judged at the highest level!

Believe it or not, I have it back again, 2 years and less than 100 miles later! I LOVE my clients, they treasure my cars and I get the chance to have them back.

Everything on this car works as designed including the AC that blows cold. I even sent the original Reno radio out to a Blaupunkt expert to have it rebuilt!

The car comes complete with the following:

  • Original Window Sticker
  • LA Times Classified Ad listing the car for sale to 2ndowner
  • Original VIN matched Maintenance book, owners’ manual and matching cover.
  • Show quality tool kit, air pump, jack, gloves and tire storage plastic.
  • All original keys including 2 masters, valet and 2 wheel locks keys
  • Car Cover
  • Service history including handwritten log from owner 2 documenting the mileage.
