1997 Porsche 993 C4S- A great, honest, fully documented wide body that is ready to drive and enjoy!
I have been accused of maybe being a little too particular, a little too obsessed. In fact I had a potential customer tell me that he thought about buying one of my cars, but he thought he would be AFRAID to actually drive it…. Ouch! A Porsche should be driven, so while I still obsessed over this car I am officially giving any potential buyer permission to not only drive this car but to drive it with some zest! This car is that perfect sweet spot; the pictures don’t lie, it’s a gorgeous car! However if it will make you feel better I can highlight some flaws and it has been enjoyed for 79k miles, so what’s a few more?
This 993 was sold new at Dave Strong Porsche in Salt Lake City on September 24th, 1996. The original owner had the car until 2007 and just shy of 36k miles, servicing it exclusively at the Porsche dealer. The second owner brought the car to Seattle and kept it until 2013 and 75k miles. The current owner purchased the car in 2013 and has driven it not quite 6,000 miles in 7 years, hence putting it up for sale. Luckily the ENTIRE history of this car is chronicled from the window sticker to current with no gaps in an organized 3-ring binder. I LOVE having this kind of documentation!

The exterior the car is easily a top 10% example with no real notable defects. Nice enough for the front row at any local Cars and Coffee for sure! The Carfax is of course clean and it has never been in an accident. In the 993-era they offered two different Silvers; thru 1996 the color was Polar Silver, a blue-based silver. Starting in 1997 they switched to Arctic Silver, which is more pure true silver. Both are great colors, but I find Arctic Silver to best accentuate the wide rear hips of the 4S….
The interior of this car is also quite nice; with just the most minor of patina commiserate with age and mileage. I especially like the fact that the recent owner updated the head unit to the Porsche Classic unit, which matches the 993 styling perfectly yet offers the modern convenience of Bluetooth, USB and Navigation, love it! No weird smells, tacky type wear or non functional items.
This car has been well loved from Day 1 as witnessed with the complete service history, however I always like to make them “right”. Here is what I have done:
- Annual Service and Full Inspection
- Reseal right side timing chain cover and replace o-ring gaskets on the left side timing chain cover
- Replace front control arm bushings
- 4 new Continental Extreme Contact Tires
- 4-way alignment
- Complete detail at Metropolitan Detail
Now, this 993 is READY to drive. One of my favorite items for a “driver” is Paint Protection film and this car has been covered in 3M Ventureshield from the A-pillars forward, so no concerns about rock chips or road wear!
The buyer of this car will receive the following:
- Original Window Sticker
- Complete Service history organized in a 3-ring binder
- All the books and manuals in the correct case
- Both keys/remotes and the valet key
- The complete tool kit and jack
The 993 has always been desirable being the final iteration of the iconic air-cooled experience. Of the 993’s however the market lusts for the wide-bodied C4S and C2S models, with their larger than life rear fenders. Couple that with the inclusion of the Turbo Big Red Brakes on the C4S model and you have a car that will always be on the top of the list. Porsche produced just 937 C4S’ in 1997 and a total of 2,327 in total, so finding a good one can be a challenge for sure!
