If you have been around Porsche long enough you will figure out that sometimes Porsche gets a new model “just right” and sometimes it takes a while until the market recognizes the genius or appreciates what the engineers were doing. Fair or not, the most revered Porsche’s tend to be the ones that were ALWAYS viewed in high esteem… the 997.2 IS just one of those cars. Coming off the 996 people LOVED the more traditional styling of the 997 but were really clamoring for 2 things: a 2-pedal solution that was a performance ADVANTAGE not a drawback and a more robust engine design than the outgoing 997.1  M97 power plant (IMO unfairly maligned, but thats for another day!). Enter 2009 and the launch of the 2nd generation 997, which took everything people LOVED about the 997 and gave it two monumental changes:

9a1 Engine Architecture- the new clean sheet design no longer utilized an IMS bearing and features direct fuel injection, making a stout 385hp in “S” form. It’s a REV happy, sexy sounding, robust, normally aspirated mill that makes enthusiasts hearts SING!

7-Speed PDK-Finally Porsche makes a car where having 2-pedals is a performance advantage (certainly some purists prefer to change their own gears, I 100% get it!). The PDK version of this car is FASTER, more responsive in day to day driving and is more fuel efficient, whats not to like? The prior Tiptronic is robust and functions fine, but it saps both performance and fun, whereas the PDK does the opposite!

So now you know the .2 is the one to get BUT one challenge stands in the way… The economic crisis of 2008 meant that very few were sold and current demand radically outstrips supply, so if you are in the market you are in for a challenge! While there are certainly cars to be had, I of course only want cars that are “our” quality and this is one of those!
