About this Car
My 2nd Porsche I ever bought came just as I was graduating from college, a 1979 Porsche 911SC Coupe in Black on Black, all original and sold new from Humphrey Porsche Audi in Everett, WA. I can imagine that these two cars sat side by side on the lot back in 1979, as this car was also sold new at Humphreys! I have always had a soft spot for the early SC coupes as it felt like such a step up from my 1975 911 which I bought as an edgy car, because that is what a teenager could afford and that SC was immaculate. I had arrived….
Much like my original 911SC this car is just right… I purchased it a couple years back from it’s 25 year owner who was a lifelong Porsche/VW fanatic and she simply had reached an age where she felt she could no longer safely operate the car. I brought the car to my shop, did some light clean up and sold it to another great local customer. Sadly a home building project has gone over budget and the Porsche will fund the deficit, he is heartbroken…
As I mentioned above, this is a lifelong Seattle car, having been sold new in Everett. Having just 3 owners over the past 35 years, it has been LOVED! I have a nearly complete history going back to the 1990’s and the car even enjoyed the honor of being featured in my 911SC Buyers Guide, please check out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPo5Pv5og9g&list=PLUtmxPSrEvyiktE8skeVG6CwErZ1XdKyG&index=8&t=2943s
I will describe this car as WAY nicer than the vast majority of what is out there (sadly, lately that seems to be a low bar…) but more nice driver than concours quality. It has just enough patina here and there that you can use it guilt free, but nice enough fellow Porschephile will ooh and aah… It runs and drives as a good one should. everything works as designed, leak down when last tested was spot on and I see no reason someone needs to spend a penny to enjoy it today!
In the interest of my full disclosure:
- Paintwork- Yes, over the years on several panels. Why? I really don’t know as the owner from 1997-2023 said nothing was done on her watch. I see no evidence of anything serious, although I do beleive the passenger door has been replaced early in its life.
- Leaks- It does have some typical leaks, at some point you will be adressing some of them, but it runs great, has good leakdown, no broken headstuds, so it just doesnt seem worthwhile as it leaves 1-2 dime size drops over the course of a few days.
- one fun fact and cool feature in my book, is that the car has NEVER had AC! 1979 was the last year you could get a 911SC in the USA without AC and this is one such car. I think this is a huge advantage, not having all the hardware, holes, etc for a system that never works worth a darn!
- I do have the original books and manuals, window sticker, service records for the past 30+ years, and the toolkit (although not up to my usual aesthetic standards..)
I suspect this car will sell fast as it is the type of car everyone tells me they want, an honest, no stories driver that they would be proud to own for not cubic dollars… Is that person you?
